Sophie Volunteers for Grow Free
Written on the 9 November 2017
At Community Living Australia, we are passionate about supporting our clients to actively participate in their local communities. Sophie loves to volunteer for Grow Free at Glenbar in Strathalbyn.
Grow Free is a group of people working together to make life for future generations full of good health and abundance. With the support of the local community, Grow Free aims to produce food that is locally grown, organic and free grown by the community, for the community.
Once Sophie heard about Grow Free and all the work they do in her community, she was keen to get involved. Sophie volunteers her time mowing lawns, pulling weeds, shovelling mulch, and assisting with lots of other gardening duties while at Glenbar. The Grow Free project also provide sharing carts' across South Australia, these carts are loaded up with fresh produce to share with the community. The produce is free and the carts have a 'take what you need and give what you can' philosophy. Since volunteering at Glenbar, Sophie has put together a sharing cart and is supporting Grow Free to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to members of the Strathalbyn community.
Sue Stuart, Regional Manager for the Adelaide Hills, Strathalbyn & Riverland, said 'Grow Free is an outstanding community initiative which, like us at Community Living Australia, values the importance of community connection and collaboration.'
'Partnerships with local groups and projects such as the Grow Free initiative support our clients to develop their skills and confidence, and we are really proud of Sophie for identifying a way to actively participate and positively contribute to her community,' added Sue.
Sophie thoroughly enjoys her time at Glenbar as she says it is 'great fun with great people and I love being in the garden.' She can't wait to go back soon.
