CLASS Charity Race Day
Written on the 25 March 2013 by Karen Goldie
The local business people of The Fleurieu once again demonstrated their community spirit by getting behind the CLASS Charity Race Day event at Strathalbyn Race Course last Wednesday. The Race Day may not have ‘stopped the Nation!’, but for the guests in The Green Room an enjoyable day was had including a marvellous three course lunch and entertainment by Aldinga Beach musician Pete Hilditch.
This is the third year that the CLASS fundraising event has been held and once again Tom Gilbert and his team from Adelaide Hills Toyota and Keith Pridham and his team at Strathalbyn Building & Estimating Consultancy continued their active support for the event.
This year, CLASS were delighted to have additional sponsorship support from the local Strathalbyn IGA, Maidments Meat Service, Moore Law, Conveyencer Chris Rodgers and Strathalbyn-local Paul Allen. Local butcher, Craig Maidment also donated the meat for lunch. CLASS is also very grateful to David Dridan, Keith Pridham, Willshire Motor Trimmers, Terramin Angas Zinc Mine and the wineries of Langhorne Creek who donated items for additional fundraising on the day.
With the help of our sponsors, we raised over $5,000. Aware of the chronic need for respite for young people with disabilities and their families, all of the funds raised will support unfunded recreational camps for people living with a disability. CLASS Camps provide an invaluable opportunity for participants to gain some life long memories, first time experiences and provide skills and knowledge unknown to them before. Participants come from a wide range of backgrounds, including those disadvantaged by low income, social and family isolation, geographical isolation and sole parenting. As in all Recreation programs, a strong focus is placed on client choice and independent living skills.
Karen Goldie, Marketing Manager at CLASS, commented “What an enjoyable day out for a worthy cause. The weather was perfect; the food was amazing and all in such a picturesque setting. Greg and his team produced a lovely meal and The Green Room staff were so accommodating.” She added “If you haven’t been to the Strathalbyn Race Course in a while, I urge you to attend a race day, for what is a lovely day out! The rural amenity and country hospitality is a credit to Strathalbyn”
CLASS thanks local businesses and the local community for supporting CLASS’ fundraising initiatives.
