2017 CLA Foundation Charity Golf Day and Grants Program

Written on the 9 November 2017

On Friday 15 September the CLA Foundation hosted its seventh annual Charity Golf Day at the Murray Bridge Golf Course.

Raising much needed funds to support both children and adults living with disability in the Murray Mallee region, the funds raised from the event are used for a variety of purposes that support people living with disability to live as independently as possible, to be valued and engaged members of their local community and to reach their goals and live fulfilling lives.

An example of one of the initiatives and projects that the money raised goes towards is the CLA Foundation Grants for people living with disability. Earlier this year, two grants were released for people living with disability in the local Murraylands community - a Microenterprise Grant to the value of $1,500, and a Post-Secondary Education Grant to the value of $500.

This year's recipients were Adam Thomas, who received the Microenterprise Grant, and Michael Reardon, who was awarded the Post-Secondary Education Grant. The Microenterprise Grant will support Adam to develop and expand his bike repair business in Murray Bridge. The Post Secondary Education Grant will support Michael with the costs associated with his study of Journalism and International Relations at the University of South Australia. Funds raised from this year's event will be used to fund and potentially expand these grant offerings moving forward.

The CLA Foundation is also particularly proud of its partnership with and support of Community Living Australia. The CLA Foundation has been proud to support a variety of our projects over the years such as the 'Grow to Pick' community garden project currently being undertaken at 'The ottage', our Day Options venue in Murray Bridge. The Grow to Pick Garden will be open to the community, and will include raised garden beds for greater accessibility.

Des Warner, Chairman of the CLA Foundation, said 'Community Living Australia is a great organisation, and one that we are particularly proud to partner with and support. Through the Golf Day, we can raise much needed funds for people living with disability in our local Murraylands ommunity while encouraging local organisations and businesses to come out, show their support, and have a bit of fun.'

The 2017 Charity Golf Day was a huge success, with 13 teams participating in the 18-Hole Ambrose competition and over $12,000 being raised. Congratulations goes out to Acess2Place who were the winning team on the day.

The event was also sponsored by a number of local businesses and individuals, with Mr Warner wanting to extend particular thanks to the major sponsors; Adelaide Mushrooms, Street Fleet and Thomas Foods. 'We want to thank all of the sponsors for their support of the event, it would not be possible without your support and your contribution will directly impact the lives of people living with disability.'

'We look forward to continuing this fantastic event next year, and are hoping to go even bigger and better. We hope to see all the teams and sponsors here next year for another great day on the course raising money for people living with disability,' added Mr Warner.
