Open Mic Music Workshop in Kingston a Huge Success!
Written on the 9 November 2017
At Community Living Australia, we encourage our clients to live life to the fullest by supporting them to actively participate in their local communities. For us, this includes the development of community-based projects, such as the Open Mic Music Workshop currently taking place in Kingston, South East.
The Open Mic Music Workshop runs once a month, with staff volunteering their time on a Sunday to host the event at the Old Woolstore Restaurant. Jeffrey, a Community Living Australia client, has become the 'roadie' for the workshops, supporting the staff to set up and pack up for each event. Jeffrey has been involved in music throughout his life, having played in a band, and was excited to get involved in the program. Warren and Jackie enjoy coming along and having a sing, and staff involved have seen major improvements in their confidence and social skills.
Helen Brennan, Acting Regional Manager for the South East, said 'The Open Mic Music Workshop is a truly enjoyable experience for our musically keen clients. It is great to see people's confidence and skills grow as they step up to the microphone and get involved in a great program which is open to the whole community to join in.'
